Basic knowledge of monomer

What is the monomer?
A monomer is a molecule that forms the basic unit for polymers, which are the building blocks of proteins. Monomers bind to other monomers to form repeating chain molecules through a process known as polymerization. Monomers may be either natural or synthetic in origin.

Example of monomer-
glycogen, starch, and cellulose Glucosevinyl chloride, amino acids, and ethylene etc.

Type of monomer-
Essentially, monomers are building blocks for molecules, including proteins, starches and many other polymers. There are four main monomers: amino acids, nucleotides, monosaccharides and fatty acids. These monomers form the basic types of macromolecules: proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids.

Structure of monomer-:
Four type of monomer-
Tha monomers of these organic group are:
  • Carbohydrates - monosaccharides.
  • Lipids - glycerol and fatty acids.
  • Nucleic acids - nucleotides.
  • Proteins - amino acids
